I am a Cleveland, Ohio based writer taking up my father’s search for his biological father, who left my grandmother shortly before or after my dad’s birth in 1924. My father began his search late in his life, and abandoned it because of the progression of his Parkinson’s disease. I hope that by discovering my biological grandfather’s ethnic roots and the whereabouts of his life, I will find clues, maybe cousins, to the origins of medical quirks that are rife in my family. This is meant to evolve into a memoir about self and family as well as an exploration of the Hungarian community in Cleveland in early the 20th century – perhaps the most significant at that time and one of the larger ones today. The photo above is of my dad in his mid-thirties, circa 1959, shortly before he married my mother.
